A Fun New Fashionable Project

Capsule Dress cm

So we did get a new kitchen but while I’m finishing up puttying a few spots before I reveal it, I thought you’d like to know what I’ve been up to since I last posted. I’ve started a site that curates modest, fashionable dresses that women actually want to wear. So if you’d like, head over to my new site to see if there’s anything there that tickles your fancy.

Mad For Plaid: Autumn 2015

It’s still above 90 degrees here in Austin but since I’m headed to Ireland in a week (I’m not even close to ready) I’m dreaming of brisk weather and falling leaves. There’s not a whole lot more autumn-y than plaid so I thought that I’d put together some of the cutest finds under $25. Even if it’s not cool enough to wear the sweaters yet, the plaid decor is enough to satisfy my craving.

All of the decor items are from Target and they’re 10% off online with the code “FURNITURE” at check out which makes them an even better deal.

Fall Outfit for Warmer Weather

fall-outfit-warm-weatherDress/ Wedges/ Necklace/ Bracelet (Under $20)

Living in Texas, Fall is a gorgeous and beautiful time but far too hot for sweaters, scarves, or even long sleeves. Right now I feel like so many outfit inspirations are gorgeous but not practical for all of us living south of the Maxon Dixon line so I thought that I’d put together a cute outfit that you won’t die in when you walk outside. Best part? The entire outfit is just over $100- including the Kate Spade necklace.

I just bought the dress and I think that I’m going to have to pick up the gold plated bracelet as well since it’s such a steal!

Footwear for Anywhere: Shoes For My Next Adventure

I’m not sure if I’m lucky or crazy but tonight I just booked my flight for Dublin, Ireland! Now I know most logical people out there are thinking “wait, didn’t she just buy a 50 year old fixer upper LAST MONTH?” Yes, yes I did. But you see, the husband has to go out there for work and I joked that if he didn’t take me with him, he shouldn’t come home (kidding, not kidding). So we’re going, even though it doesn’t make a lot of sense. It puts some of our home projects out a little bit further out but honestly, I’m OK with it. When we were thinking about buying a house, we worried that buying one would end our adventures so while this trip isn’t necessarily convenient, it’s definitely ensuring we don’t end up spending all our extra cash on the house.

But enough about the house, let’s get back to the trip! We’re going to be there at the very beginning of October with the average temperatures being 50-60 degrees with high likelihood of some rain. So this means I’m going to need some new duds since Austin weather is quite a bit different. I’ve looked and looked for cute and comfy shoes that fit the bill and I keep coming back to the same pair, although in different colors. But look at them, can you blame me?

TOMS Desert Wedge Booties

They’re pretty much primed to be travel shoes. A little waterproof spray and the suede should survive most rain, especially if you got them in one of the darker colors. Amazon reviews (who doesn’t live and die by them, honestly?) swear that they’re comfortable all day long despite the wedge heel. I’ve had TOMS flats before and loved how comfy they were so I’m pretty sure these will be as well. One of the best things about these though, is that I think they’ll look great with the skinny jeans I have now and the flare jeans that are SO in this season.

These booties have been out for a season or two so do any of you have them? If so, love or hate them? Also, I would LOVE to hear any recommendations you have for visiting Ireland! I’m so excited to hear anything and everything you recommend!

Wearing Your Favorite City

I’m getting the itch to travel again which is bad considering I just bought a 50 year old home that needs a ton of work. It’s easy to forget how much time (and money) the new house needs when I see other people’s pictures of cities around the world, especially cities that I love. So it was fairly fortuitous that in an email this morning, Bezar (I love them!) featured this gorgeous grid necklace of Paris, one of my favorite cities.

Paris Necklace

Isn’t it beautiful? They have other cities too and I was ready, credit card in hand, to buy one of Austin (my favoritest city) but alas, they didn’t have it. Despite not having my beloved hometown, they do have a bunch of other amazing cities from around the world. I love how the city is represented so delicately and that if you look closely, you can pick out neighborhoods that you love! They also have this fun cuff representing the Tube in London which I might be added to my Christmas list.

Ah, I miss Europe and traveling. I know that the house makes waiting to book those flights worth it, so it seems like a beautiful reminder will have to suffice for now. Any of you itching to travel back to a favorite city?

**All of the city grid jewelry seems to be 10-20% off right now. If you’re even the slightest bit tempted, check them out HERE. You have to become a member but it’s free and totally worth it. BTW, I’m not paid or perked to by Bezar, I just love them! **

Help me out: Picking Out a New Kate Spade

My Broken Kate Spade Bag

UPDATE: After seeing all of the options in person, I settled on #1! It ended up being the perfect size, and had the prettiest leather! Thanks for all of your input! 🙂

Let’s start this post with a funny story. Picture me in a small art gallery, looking at beautiful oil paintings and talking to the artist. Then picture my purse strap breaking and the strap hitting me in the mouth and my purse falling to the floor. It was awesome. And by awesome, I mean totally embarrassing. The sweet artist made sure I was OK and then asked what type of bag would break like that? Sadly, it was my beloved Kate Spade.

Fortunately, my bag has a handle and I carried it out in a somewhat dignified fashion. Unfortunately, when I contacted their customer service, they let me know they no longer carried that bag but that I’d receive a full credit of the original purchase to pick out another one. I’m pretty much a one purse gal, so I’m really glad that they were so fast to offer the replacement credit as shoulder straps are far more convenient for day to day life.

So here’s where all of you come in. I’ve checked out the site and I’ve come up with several potential options. I’d love to hear your opinion on which one you’d choose.

Kate Spade Bag Options

Don’t you just love the flamingo? I really like it but I’m not sure I could continue to use it every day so I think I’m leaning towards something a bit more practical. Leave a comment with the number of the one you think is the most fabulous. Thanks in advance 🙂

Think Free Thursday: Summer Skincare

My Skincare Favorites

Just popping in today to talk about a few of my favorite skincare products for the summer. During the summer when it’s blazing hot outside and your make up is melting off your face, it’s more important than ever to make sure you’re skin is in good shape.

Thayers Unscented Witchhazel Toner has become one of my favorite skincare products ever. I use it to take off my make up at night and it leaves my skin feeling cleansed, yet hydrated and soothed. It’s really helped my overall tone and oiliness and it’s usually around $10 and lasts FOREVER. I’ve been telling all my friends about it for so long that I figure I should probably let all of you guys in on the secret. It’s magic.

Kate Somerville Exfolikate is my go to product when I think that my skin is looking a little dull. A friend in the skincare biz recommended this to me a couple years ago and now I always have it with me. I love buying it in the smaller tube so that I can easily take it with me when I travel since traveling tends to wreaks havoc on my skin. Please someone tell me that I’m not the only one.

Clarisonic Mia 2 is one of the best investments I’ve ever made for my skin. It’s essentially a toothbrush for your face (not as weird as its sounds, I promise) that utilizes the same patented sonic technology as those amazing Sonicare toothbrushes. This little guy gets all the surface grime off your face in just a minute. It’s definitely a little pricier but I’ve had mine for over 2 years now and I still use it every day in the shower.

Marc Jacobs Daisy Dream Roller is not technically a skincare product, but I just had to share it since I love it so much. I keep this in my purse pretty much at all times and it’s perfect for when you’re feeling kinda gross and need a quick something to freshen up. The scent is soft and clean and the size is perfect for travel or just your normal, on-the-go life.

Laura Mercier Oil Free Tinted Moisturizer is probably my most recent find. I’ve used Aveda tinted moisturizer for probably the last 5 years but was wanting to switch things up a bit. An awesome friend who knows and loves all-things Sephora convinced me to try it out and I have loved it since day one. LM has a regular tinted moisturizer that contains oil but my combination skin felt too oily with that one. If you’re not sure which one you’d like, get a sample of both and test each one out for a couple of days.

Benefit Erase Paste has saved me since I have extremely dark circles under my eyes- thanks mom! This paste is a bit thicker than most concealers and it perfect for under eyes, sun spots, and blemishes. I bought my first little tub over a year and a half ago and just now needed to replace it so it lasts for a super long time!

Burt’s Bees Lip Balm is an old standard. I’ll admit that I’ve occasionally wandered off and tried a different lip balm only to quickly return to Burts.

Do you have any skincare products you swear by? Have you tried any of these products and if so, what did you think?
