Lucite Entry Table

We’re closing on our new house in less than two weeks which means I should be packing up boxes, going through miscellaneous items, and all of the other boring moving stuff. But I’m not. I’m scouring the Internet for new furniture for our new digs and I don’t even feel bad about it. I like to think of it as “prepping” for new space. And the past few days I’ve been spending my “prep time” looking at gorgeous entries. Ours will be small but it doesn’t mean it can’t be interesting.

Since space is limited, I’ve pretty much decided on a lucite entry table to keep things visually clean while giving the space something solid to throw keys on. Look how pretty this one is:

Lucite Table Entry 1 Don’t you love how it defines the space without breaking it up all at the same time? Lucite is pretty much magic. Beautiful, beautiful magic. So in order to “prep” a little more (it’s always good to be prepared, right?), I thought that I’d make a mood board for how I see it styled in our new house.

I’m planning on painting the walls a soft bluish gray which I think will look gorgeous with the rug and art and help tie everything together since we’re pairing modern and traditional pieces.

So tell me, are you a fan of the lucite table or is it too modern for your taste? Would you pair with only modern touches for a cohesive look or try to balance it with more traditional pieces?

Think- Free Thursday: Feeling China Blue

Have you ever thought about where the term “feeling blue” come from? I’ve always been a little curious because personally, I love blue. It peaceful, calm, soothing and doesn’t usually scream for attention. It’s such a nice, friendly color that plays so nice with so many other colors, even garish orange. I feel like blue sometimes gets a bad rap.

But I take comfort in knowing that I’m not alone when it comes to loving blue. China blues are everywhere this year and I can’t get enough. I only have a six or seven pieces which could be considered “China blue” but after perusing a few of my favorite sites, I think that I might need to pick up a few more. Here are a few that I have my eye on:

Which one is your favorite? I honestly love them all and want each one, but the ginger jar and the dress are the ones that might already be in my online shopping cart. They’re just too good to leave behind. Anyone else out there ” feeling blue?”

Think-Free Thursday: Defining Your Style

Define Your Style

So my husband and I are lackadaisically looking for a house. We’ve toured a few homes, some of which I like and some of which he’s liked. Turns out our aesthetic styles are quite a bit different. He craves everything modern while I love more of a Southern traditional feel. We’ve done our best over the years to blend our tastes (with mine winning over most of the time) and over time I’ve found that both of our tastes have changed just a bit. I’m leaning slightly more modern these days while he has definitely come to appreciate Grecian columns.

As I’ve been soaking up Elements of Style’s Book (and checking out her blog), I’ve made the husband pick out his preferences when we get to pages like these:

I love being surprised by his choices and it’s a fun way to talk about our “dream” rooms. In the five short years we’ve been married, it’s remarkable how much our styles have converged, and thankfully, he doesn’t mind spending a few minutes talking about pillows, textiles and light fixtures with me. These chats have definitely helped me gain more of an appreciation for all things sleek and I certainly love his growing interest in design.

I’ll admit that I feel almost a compulsion to take every decorating style quiz out there and usually try to cajole my sweet husband into taking them too. If you’re tired like I am (hello, long week) and need a fun way to spend few minutes, try taking a few of these quizzes below.

Better Homes and Garden always hits the nail right on the head for me.

Houzz is a fun quiz that includes questions like what type of pet you like or where you prefer to eat.

Stylish Home seems to be the most accurate assessment of my style and the pictures are beautiful!

My Domaine feels more contemporary and has more customized results.

I got traditional, European chic, and even contemporary. While these tests certainly aren’t a refined science, they are a bit fun. Were your results what you expected?
